I was starting to lose hope after hiking a kilometer beside the gorge and not being able to get a clear photo. As we were about to turn back I noticed a path leading off to the side…

It is not easy to find any colour at this time of year. Today though, the sun came out for a while and I was able to capture these photographs of the Conestoga River.

These photos are a little different. They were all taken after the the sun had set on a moonless night with exposures between 15 and 60 seconds long. The only light is from the glow coming off Waterloo in the distance reflected off the snow.

One effect of using only distant city light for illumination is that you get a very narrow dynamic range. If you then expand that dynamic range in post-processing, you get some interesting effects.
